Can you be more specific? What kind of a small town? What do you want to be able to do there?

I grew up in Tiffin until I was 10. I am 43 now and my family are moving back in the spring (thank goodness for teleworking ability). We are going to start looking for a place to rent after the first of the year and look to move back after school is out here in Westerville. We intend to buy a house as soon as we get settled and are better able to start looking (hard to look when living 90 minutes away).

What I always liked about Tiffin is that for the most part, timne has stood still. Jolly's is still running and the Shake Shack on N. Washington is still around. I was shocked to xee McCarton's carryout still in business, as with a number of other places. Tiffin may have had some problems in recent years, but name a city that hasn't had some sort of crime or drugs - especially with two 4-year colleges.

The bottom line is that in Tiffin - as opposed to the Columbus area - my 10 year-old can actually know what it's like to be a kid instead of being essentially a prisoner due to the high crime rate. Also, a lot of my family (aunts, uncles and cousins) are still there, which makes the move a lot less stressful.

I was wondering if anyone is familiar with Knoxville Ohio in Jefferson County area? We found a home for rent really reasonable. Wrap around porch, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and acrage yard.

Just in case anyone mentioned it as a good place to move to, I thought I would throw in my two cents. Do NOT move to Grove City, Ohio. The newer houses here are selling for way more than they are worth, and the taxes are too high for what you get. It used to have a lot of small town charm, but now the city officials are trying to make it the next Dublin or Upper Arlington with all the malls and shopping centers. Most of the farm land is now gone, taken over by Wal-Mart and condo's galore. Don't even get me started on the joke of a school district that Southwestern City Schools has become either. The teenage pregnancy rate is very high (seeing as how about 25-30% of my graduating class in 2000 either had children, were pregnant, or had multiple abortions by the time we graduated). Marysville is beginning to spread its wings and grow, trying to compete with near by Dublin (which isn't too bad if you don't mind snobs). Personally, I love Ashville, Ohio. I lived there until I was 3, and still go back every year for the 4th of July parade and it's just outside of Circleville (another nice small community), which has an annual pumpkin show.

I moved to a small county here in Ohio from Maryland, just outside of Washington, DC, basically to get away from all the noise and the congestion in the Washington metropolitan area, the county is Noble County, I realize it is the smallest of the 88 counties in Ohio and it is a very rural area, Noble County has a population of a little over 14,000 people, I live just outside of Caldwell with a population of less than 2000, Caldwell is the county seat and it reminds me of Mayberry, the old Andy Griffith show, it is located about 30 miles north of Marietta and about 20 miles south of Cambridge on Interstate 77, nice little place to be, quiet, laid-back, friendly people and just generally a nice place to live.

Bowling Green is a great town, BUT it is around 35-40K people. Bad thing about them is if you have a family it might be a bit wild because Bowling Green is the Home of Bowling Green State University so the town is packed with students and partying. Other than that its a great place - but if you're looking for the small town feel check out pemberville or perrysburg.

Default Yes! Orrville Ohio Home of Smith Dairy

Greetings everyone!

I know you're out there. Former Orrvillians who have left and now you want out the rat race. You think back to the good, simpler times you experienced here in Amish country. You miss the small hometown feel, the fall leaves, the farms, the countryside and the clip clop of Amish buggies. Well, come on back home to Orrville.

We are in the midst of a revitalization. Orrville is one of a handful of towns across Ohio that are part of the Ohio Main Street program. We have received grants to revitalize our downtown and improvements are evident everywhere. Our downtown is becoming quite quaint these days. If you are looking to open up a little store, come on back and open one downtown. We have plenty of industry and our own electric company too!

Contrary to some statistics you might come across, Orrville is virtually crime free. It is a very safe town. I am prone to take walks in the middle of the night and have never been accosted in any way. I don't know where they got their statistics from because I'm sure if any serious crime happened it would be the talk of the town. There are no such thing as home invasions here, no carjackings and no murder. I feel completely safe here in Orrville.

We have a beautiful park with a creek running through it that holds concerts in the summer and abound with ballfields. We have great schools, in fact they just built a new school. There is a boys and girls club that caters the youth. Your kids can even go there while they wait for you to get off work. This is a wonderful place to raise children.

You are just 20 minutes away from all the shopping in Wooster and close to Canton, Cleveland and Akron. Orrville is not a mecca for shopping but they like to keep it that way. I can sit on my front porch and watch Amish buggies clipclopping down the street. They come in to go to our grocery stores. A very short drive takes you right into the heart of Amish country and its breathtakingly beautiful.

Nearby Kidron is a mecca for the Amish and there you have Lehmans, the largest old fashioned hardware store in the world. They have been selling hard to get non electric items since the 50s. They started out catering to the Amish's needs. Refer to Lehmans.com to see what I'm talking about.

Kidron also has weekly livestock auctions and an outdoor flea market where Amish and "Englishers" mingle. All around the area you can get locally made Swiss cheese and bulk food stores abound. One of the simplest pleasures around here is to take a country drive and get lost in Amish country. Marvel at the beauty of the well kept farms, see beautiful draft horses and dairy cows in the pasture. You'll see the Amish working teams of horses in the field. Okay now your turn fellow Orrville residents, help me explain why living in here is so great!
