I don't drink sweet tea, so can't comment on that...but I highly support the recommendation for McAlister's. I'm so glad there is finally one here! Sandwiches are good, and we are fans of their giant baked potatoes (topped with chili and cheese or a variety of other things).

The new McAlister's is in the Worldgate shopping center in Herndon, but it's at the end opposite of the TGI Friday's so won't get a lot of walk-by traffic. (Not the best location within that plaza, in my opinion.) It was completely empty when we were in there a couple weeks ago, so I hope that good reviews will spread by word of mouth, and maybe they get some good lunch traffic from the nearby office buildings.

It's nothing fancy or "outstanding" but we enjoy it for a fast casual meal.

Isn't there like a Bojangles around here somewhere? Greasy chicken and sickeningly sweet tea to remind Southerners of home. I've seen commercials for them, so I assume there must be one nearby.

There's one in Union Station.

I believe that CiCi's Pizza has sweet tea.

Also, there's sweet tea everywhere in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, even though it's further north that Northern Virginia - go figure.

Whatever happened to so-called Southern manners? More than a dozen people weigh in to help you in your quest for sweet tea, and not even a "thanks"?

Ya'll. Now I know you're a southern girl. When I first moved to VA in 73 (high school) everyone used to tease me about my ya'lls and such. Of course since I was 6'5 already the teasing was in good fun. I'm down in Florida for 2 weeks right now and it's good hearing my relatives and the good ole southern twang. My family is native to Florida and live in the areas where farming was huge for many years and they all still speak southern.

Not quite what you were looking for but it reminded me of a time when I lived in Texas listening to a Texas-native coworker who had just returned from a business trip to a northern state. He asked for a glass of iced tea at a restaurant and the waitress said they didn't have any. He asked for her to make some; she said she didn't know how. He asked if they had hot tea; she replied, yes. So he told her to make a cup of hot tea then take a glass of ice cubes and pour the tea over the ice. There you have it... iced tea!

Reminds me of a story my Dad (also a native Texan) tells about the time decades ago when he went to a diner in Portland, ME,and ordered a "regular coffee." Which turned out to be a besugarated, becreamerized beverage.
