Anything you notice around here that strikes you as odd? I'll start with some:

- How little time NoVAns with beautiful yards spend outside
- How underutilized is the Potomac River as a Recreation venue
- The the scarcity of land "close-in" hasn't resulted in the gentrification ofRoute 1.

That's because the Supervisors (Gerry Hyland in Mount Vernon; Jeff McKay and previously Dana Kauffman in Lee) have always wanted to keep it "affordable" and full of subsidized housing.

Shhhhh.... don't jinx the best secret around...

I must admit, it's something I don't understand but I thank my lucky stars for it.

Yesterday my grandson took me out kayaking and there were only a few other people out on the river. It was very easy to feel we were far, far away from the rest of the world. We saw deer walking along the river's edge and a large number of herons on this one rocky outcrop. When we passed by it they spread their large wings and flew out on both sides of us. What an awesome sight! It amazes me that I can live so close to a major metropolitan area and yet be so apart from it.

Here are some:
I can't seem to find anyone that serves a decent iced tea.
There are hardly any tennis courts.
People love to eat outside even in the hottest most humid weather!

BINGO!!! No one is going to invest in land that they can't sell for a reasonable price.

Now now, the point of this is not to offer explanations, just your observations.

Some neighborhoods have sidewalks, then they mysteriously end to someone's yard.
Sometimes the sidewalks are on one side; nothing on the other side.
Sometimes there are no sidewalks on either side.

I guess this explains why people drive to the grocery store even though it's only 6 blocks away.

Secret?

Why spend time at a river (freebie) when people have pool memberships, beach homes, private pools, and country clubs memberships in NoVa?
