Are there still any animals at this park? Not talking geese and birds!

I don't think there ever was. It's not a zoo.

Why post if you don't know? They closed down the "zoo" a year or two ago. 30 years ago they had elephants, if that is not an animal I don't know what is.

Yes, up until a few years ago, Nay Aug Park did house animals. They no longer do, though. Quite honestly, familymom, it wasn't a real cheery place even when the animals were there. Try Lehigh Valley Zoo. It's a small zoo but lots of animals that are well taken care of.

In 1968, when I first moved to Scranton, Nay Aug Park had a great zoo. Lots of animals. An elephant. Buffalo. Baboons. Lions. Tigers. Bears. Oh, my. (sorry). There was also a cute little farm animal zoo with goats and chickens and a humongus, ginormous pig. There was a 55 gallon drum at the entrance and the request to donate your green stamp books so they could "purchase" a zebra. There was a section of snakes and birds. It was a wonderful place.

There was an amusement section. Two of my boys worked there in the summers when they were in high school. The pool was a great place to hang out.

We used to go to the park every nice week end in the summer. There were concerts. The Everhart Museum was free and there were picnic tables and plenty of space for families to enjoy nature.

We watched Jim Crowley break the world's record for continuous piano playing in the pavilion. (For football fans, his father was one of the Four Horsemen)

When I moved away in 1975, it was still a pretty nice place. I don't know when the nice went away, but somebody owes me 20 books of green stamps!

We had a place like that over in Kearny, NJ. I remember even as a child thinking how sad the animals looked. The older kids would throw stones and garbage at them. It's a shame that innocent pleasures are taken away from us. Thanks for the info.
