As our user name suggests, my husband and I are looking to move out of Brooklyn and commute to work in Manhattan for the first time! We are looking for a 2 bed condo/townhome/apartment for around $350-400k where we can walk to a train station. We have been looking at the Hudson Valley and we love Cold Spring where there are a few properties in our price range. We love the village atmosphere and walkability of Cold Spring but would like to know where conveniences such as a shopping mall are located in the area? We also both have to travel for work and wonder about the best route to and from airports! Any advice would be much appreciated.

I'm in the same situation as you where I work on the upper west side and live in Queens. I'm looking into the Cold Spring and surrounding areas as well. I will be commuting everyday obviously. Did you find any new developments? I'm really looking for a new development to avoid any fixmeups. A new condo/townhome would be best. Mind sharing what you've found so far and where you looked?

hi there!

There isn't much new development there apart from the riverfront townhomes that are being built. Those are beautiful as maisonchat says -but are being sold, as far as I can tell, for between 800-900k so way out of our budget. There may be newer homes in the area for sale - I'm guessing for $550k and up, but I'm not an expert! We also looked in Beacon which had some affordable things and seemed like an up and coming area, but further out of NYC.

I looked at Beacon but I've been reading that the commute is treacherous. 1:30 is probably the most i'd want to spend on Metro north. God forbid something happens like a derailment and you're not getting home for 5-6 hours.
