4, 5, 6 line is the busiest in the country. More people take the lex line per day than SF, boston, and chicago's systems COMBINED.
I'm going to miss getting from 86th St to Union Square in 10 minutes on the 4/5, but standing shoulder to shoulder during rush hour and never getting a seat on the local is something I look forward to losing when I move to Brooklyn off the R!

So you take the R to 59 or 36 Street (depending on where you pick it up), transfer over to the N, and sail into Manhattan on the express!
Try taking anything on the lexington line express and not feeling like a sardine, JUST NOT POSSIBLE. So in my experience the busiest are the 4 and 5. (Especially the #4). Sometimes you have to wait for multiple trains just to be able to get on.

The 4 going uptown from 125 st is more crowded than it should be. I have NO idea why they run the trains every 15 minutes around 7am. I sometimes stand there and there are three 6 trains in the time I stand there waiting for the 4 to the Bronx. And then there's hardly anyone getting onto the 6; meanwhile, there's a huge crowd waiting for the 4. I don't know why they don't run the 4 more often.
I can't wait until I move to Long island and have a car.
Officially, the 4 train is the busiest line in the system. The 4,5,6, 1,2,&3 are basically the work horses of the MTA.
I agree, I would also say the A train is jam packed atleast in nearly all of Manhattan, from the first 5 stops alone, 207 to 168th the train is filled up.
Every train is too crowded in the morning. That's why I take the express bus. Taking a little nap in a comfortable reclining seat is well worth the extra $$.
