Anyone know of apartment complexes in Astoria that I could check out?

Thanks,

There aren't many big apartment complexes in Astoria; almost everyone rents in either a single named building or in a 2-3 story home with different apartments on every level. If you prefer to rent in a highrise with luxury amenities, look to Long Island City, the neighborhood to the south of Astoria. It is only one subway stop from Manhattan and I could recommend to you some complexes/large buildings there if you are interested.

I recommend looking for an apartment in a split level house. They are sometimes huge and you can get a good price because you're not dealing with a large apartment landlord. I'm paying only 1100 for a 1 bedroom that is close to 1000 square feet with modern appliances, wood floors, and windows in every room. Astoria is my favorite neighborhood in NYC too, can't beat the convenience of Steinway, food, bars, cafes and the ethnic mix. It's rare to find a neighborhood where Italians, Greeks, Middle Easterns, Hispanics, Asians, Americans etc. of all ages and socio-economic backgrounds all get along and live amongst each other so well. Astoria should be a model for America and the world.

I only pay 750 a month for a small 1 bedroom right off Ditmars blvd. It's a rare find in Astoria, but it's possible. I went through Millennium realty on Ditmars. I looked at 2 that were 750, so you can find some if you really look.

From what I have seen, most studios cost around $900-1100 and most one bedrooms cost around $1200-1400. However, as Rachel illustrates, this is just an average range and there are lots of deals to be found. I know someone who found a decent-sized two bedroom right by the N elevated subway line for only $1500/month. It's in a neighborhood with lots of restaurants, bars, stores and is only a 12 minute ride to 59th Street in Midtown East, so this is a great deal.

Agreed. My sister and her husband live near Ditmars Boulevard and those numbers fall within the neighborhood parameters. Rachel got a great deal but that's not easy to find. Astoria is a really convenient place because of its proximity to Manhattan and it has its own conveniences - restaurants, bars, nightlife, Astoria Park, hot spots, shopping, etc.

There are some streets that are not esthetic to the eyes but then again when one walks away from the overhead subway tracks several blocks away, the area can be pretty charming.
