There was a police investigation that closed the subway station around 3 AM last night, although I don't know what it was about.

It could be a lot worse, but when you have 96 project buildings, there's bound to be some problems.

What is it and this boards obsession with the projects? The projects are actually a decent place to live and one of the last places where REAL New Yorkers can live anymore.

Projects do not equal crime! Thousands and thousands of great families live in the projects of NY and a few bad apples ruin it for everyone! Its rediculous!
The projects are so heavily policed in this day in age it like a damn occupation. They've got survailance all over the place, people are afraid to leave there house not out of fear of criminals but outta fear of being wrongfully arrested or even shot by the police!
The negative stigma of the projects is alive and well and perpetuated on this board. It is a racist and classist view of affordable housing and it personally makes me sick.

LIC the future of Yuppy America! More evictions and displacement and more MUFFINS!

I hear you. They need to stop making those hideous condos in LIC.. it's okay if they make some new housing, because all the factories, and car parts places aren't exactly attractive, but how many condos does a neighborhood really need?

Well you should also be feeling sick for accusing people of being racist for warning newcomers to be wary. It could be Gracie Mansion for all I care, if the stats say it's dangerous, I'll tell them to watch out for the Mayor!

No one said all project dwellers are criminals. Like you said, a few bad apples tend to ruin it for everyone.

The overzealous condo development in LIC is slowing down. They were selling like mad, so developers just kept building them wherever they could. Sales are way down now, though.

@ JoeBama

are you aware of the fact that muffins are delicious?

But I digress... I don't think it's classist to believe that concentrated poverty leads to a high crime rate, because those few bad apples are living next door to each other and influence the people and conditions around them. Living a block or two too close to the projects may be a concern to some people, especially if they plan on raising children there. And we address those issues when people ask about certain areas.

I'd prefer office buildings... honestly, would it be that much of a crime if Queens has a waterfront skyline? It's time for something other than Flushing Meadows on our postcards, eh?

Agreed, but those factories and car part places are jobs for the working people of NY. Although not attractive they put food on the plate for many families.

How can you talk about LIC and not discuss the gentrification going on. Should it be ignored and pretend its not happenning?
@Andysocks
I don't care for $5.00 muffins no matter how good they taste.
