Hi apvbguy -
Since you are the most adamant of all these posts, just curious how often you pass through here weekly. Just an honest question - nothing against you-I do care about your opinion, just want to get an idea of how you justify your stance? Is it crime stats or general knowledge because you either live around there or frequent the place? Or do you know someone who does? I only ask because there are parts of my city I consider bad and wouldn't advise to tourists, but I can also admit that I never go there and things may have changed. I haven't been through Cabrini Green in a while. I don't think it technically exists as it did before. I also don't go down there to see how things are different because it will forever be Cabrini Green to me. However, if a nice b&b opened up there I would start to think, what the heck is going on there? Just curious. You don't really elaborate beyond these "zingers".
like someone said, consider cabrini green, same type of area, nearby has become somewhat nice, but would you wander division st in front of the place? I wouldn't, that B&B would be like it was across the street from cabrini greens front door

I really don't think that's a fair comparison. I think the projects the B&B is across from are the George Washington Houses - maybe someone could confirm? I don't think the area was EVER as bad as Cabrini-Green!
Besides, aren't the projects in Chicago very isolated? 103rd and 3rd is far from isolated. I've been to Chicago, and I found myself in a very bleak, desolate area at one point late at night (don't know the name of the neighborhood) - I was much less comfortable there than I ever was or would be around the Washington Houses. Moreover, I could easily name half a dozen places in NYC where I'd much less prefer to be than 103rd and 3rd.

NYC is a great place to visit, why saddle yourself with dealing with the kind of issues that will be encountered in a place like that, it's a vacation!
If the OP is just looking to save a few bucks there are inexpensive places to stay in much better areas.
ok i'll put it to you like this, if you're from an upper crust very high income area, el barrio might not be the place for you....but if you're from an ethnically diverse area, are blue collar in background & you don't mind noise...busses, taxis, sirens, then it's all good. if you're afraid of your own shadow & you have a private limo service taking you from point A to point B then i'd say stay at the Essex Jumeriah on W. 57th St. average cost per night on the low end is about $200 a night.
