That's the wrong approach, it's slowing down because of people staying inside and wear protection. The min people go back out and given a false sense of security. The death rate will spike. Without a vaccine or treatment for the virus, it will be suicide to open things back up unless you plan on sending more people to hospitals and their graves.
Tell that to Trump and Cuomo. That's unless if you want to do 18-24 months of closure and no work? Even if a Vaccine comes out in 18 months, it will take time to deploy and months to treat 330 million Americans. I know alot of people especially in academia who do not mind such approach. Remember folks value safety and security over freedom and independence. Very crucial issues themes of issues during times of emergency.
Maybe if the United States were socialist it would be possible to do a 2 year lock down. Since the United States is capitalist, the country can not survive a long lock down. 3 month lock down or more will put the United States into a depression.
What would be the best option is for Americans who choose to go back to work, should get hazard pay of some sort or some sort of increased pay, while those who do not want to go back to work, can work for home and wait 18-24 months to vaccine. If not recieve IU and Snap during the time to wait out for a vaccine.
Also if America was total socialist. It would be interesting for united states to fully lock down NY and nyc. Imagine having the military to deliver average food and mres to people who live in the uws and ues of Manhattan who love in their privlidge towers and have to feed the same type of food to those who live in NYCHA. In communist China, Chinese military ahd to deliver food to people who are quanrtiend by force of the state.

He also echo'd what I said yesterday that a Vaccine is still 12-18 months away but there will be other treatments soon that will help tremendously for us to get back to a "new normal" sooner until a vaccine is ready.
Antibody testing, Plasma, Hydrochloroquine all mentioned as possibilities by the governor.

Seems like there's not a penalty for violating at least.
