Oh funny, did you actually just chop off the rest of the sentence so you can beg to differ on something that wasn't actually said? C'mon, be better than that.

Yea, I believe people were locked indoors--what did my post actually say? And why would I care if you do a dig at CNN?
You know what'd be great given how erroneous your previous posts have been and how now you're not just saying inaccurate things, but now intentionally misrepresenting what other posters are saying?

Upstate NY should be opened up now. The number of cases and deaths is so small
compared to the city. Many upstate towns still have no cases. Upstate residents didn't go out on the town while the virus was spreading, they ignored this bad suggestion. If it wasn't for inconsiderate NY city slickers, upstate would be 100% safe.
And, of course, the state has another set of numbers for the city.

But my point stands. We don't REALLY know what their situation is. We only know what they want us to think their situation is.

I do think it's very possible that the numbers are off though, especially things like the initial death toll, but I think it's unlikely to be orders of magnitude off. Maybe one order of magnitude. I say that, because I know people living there with no relation to the CCP and they've been out and about and telling me about the measures being implemented for months now which seem pretty reasonable in the sense that those would probably control community spread and help do contact tracing so I'm prone to believe that their recent casualties probably aren't being adjusted very much.

Yea, I agree with your point that they are controlling the information about the numbers, but at the same time that doesn’t contradict what leoliu or whomever that was that it’s quite possible China in recent weeks has had it more or less under control. I think it’s likely they lied significantly about the initial numbers and aren’t going to correct those, and those lies can come in a lot of ways like intentionally miscounting or misclassifying, but I think it’s possible they have not been significantly lying about the death counts over recent weeks. You had multiple things you said in your post, and so I agree with bits and disagree with others.
I think a more salient point as it applies to here is that there are other countries, democratic countries, that have free presses that aren’t sycophantic to leadership and can be openly critical and that there is transparency in its actions. There is no need to envy the CCP whatsoever. As a democratic and free country, or any country, can use the lockdowns to get control over community spread with unknown vectors, and then after the oxygen’s been deprived from that community spread, rational policies on loosening restrictions and having readily available testing to track future flareups can lead to a pragmatic reopening of more sectors of the economy. That’s policy not exclusive to the CCP at all.
