I don't see how we would open May 1st, even if it is a slow roll out. Even California has extended the stay at home order 2 weeks and they have less cases and deaths compared to NY. If there isn't a major expansion of testing there would be no point in ending the stay at home order, things would explode 100x faster.
AND I wouldn't go back to work May 1 because I don't think that is in my best interest. I'm immunocompromised so I'm not going to put myself in a position to become a statistic and I think a lot of people would agree with that.
Well we first need to be clear what it means to "open". If we mean have everything like it was before then that won't happen until a vaccine is widely available or there's a cure.
But in terms of people going back to work and hanging out in crowds, that can happen right now for people who are immune. That means anyone who got the virus, killed it off, and recovered. We need to have the tests available to prove it and those people are good to go.
Seniors who have been hunkering away however, unfortunately will not be able to go back out for a very long time

At this point, does that matter? China lies on a lot of things, and we probably also lie on our numbers, because we simply do not have an easy way to know who's dead accurately.
See how numbers in France sometimes go up by 1000 or so on top of the daily fatality rate because they add up the people found dead in nursing homes. Unfortunately, too late.
I'm sure something similar is going on in the US.
Furthermore, when you hear some personal stories about people sharing how their parents are treated in the hospital here, and how they "come back" dead after a week... you can only wonder if our own numbers are even reliable. I think we have to take the fatality rate as the minimum attributable to the virus. It could be way more.

Agree on the undercount, but what's the ceiling on that? I find it hard to image we are undercounting by more than like 5% to 20%. We talking a whole other order of magnitude in china, like 10 times the amount disclosed (1000%)

Everyone's numbers are inaccurate,..but I agree,..China outright lies about it. I don't believe that number.,.so why would I believe a number like 40,000 urns either?

NY is doing worse than the rest of the world because the NY gov and NY mayor encouraged people
to go out on the town while the virus was already killing people in NYC. Not smart!
