The Katonah Avenue shopping strip is probably about 8 blocks long, tops.
So 8 bars on Katonah Avenue are one per block.
And again, if there is a kosher place every block in Midwood, that just means that Orthodox Jewish people...eat a lot of kosher food.
If there is a bar every block in Woodlawn, should we extrapolate that to mean that...Irish people drink a lot of alcohol??
Look, you already got your answer. In the specific case of Woodlawn, no, there is not a major drinking problem among the populace there. Again, this is not what you think a pub is supposed to be. It is not the kind of establishment where people get lit and start retching on the streets or bump deep bass lines far into the night. I would certainly rather these kind of pubs than having difficulty finding shellfish and pork in restaurants and grocery stores nearby. Plus, some of these pubs have pretty good kitchens where you can get CHEESE ON YOUR BURGER.

So for conversation's sake, Woodlawn is not Hell Square:
As has been said numerous times now , pubs don't just serve alcohol and act as a place for people to socialize. What is so hard to understand about that? You ate at a pub. Did you drink alcohol while there?
No, we didn't eat at a pub in Woodlawn.
We ate lunch at a restaurant on McClean Avenue, Annie's Irish Kitchen (I forget the name) or something like that.

A pub on every block? Sounds good to me. I have a soft spot for Irish pubs. Now, rowdy bars catering to college kids? No thanks.
