I live in Manhattan and have a car. I have been keeping it at a family home in Queens and taking the train to pick it up and sometimes I get lucky and find a parking spot near my building and don't have to make the trip back and forth.

Anyone else pay for parking monthly daily..etc.

How much and what type of parking do you have,, to keep a car in the city?

Please don't respond that I should get rid of my car I own a small business and it comes in handy.

Thanks for the feedback,

I was fortunate to pay $160.00 a month for a spot in a private residence near my apartment in Astoria. I have paid as much as $215.00 for a private garage (but did not like the fact that I had to give an hour notice before pulling my vehicle out). I also had a private outdoor lot was $179.00 a month located in downtown Brooklyn (place was hit with heavy snow two years ago and it took them 2 weeks to clear the lot).

Typically my go to method of parking in the city is using coupons. If you google parking lots in the desired area they usually run a deal for 12 hours around $25.00 or try the "Early Bird" route by arriving early in the morning.

Good Luck

In Manhattan anywhere from $125/mo in your co-op up to $700/mo. midtown.
I had a friend who lived on the UES near 86th ST. She needed to go daily to Westchester for work. She parked in East Harlem for about $150 and took a subway to and from her car every day, tedious but cheap.

I would expect at least $200 a month (and probably a lot more depending on neighborhood) for anywhere in Manhattan below 100th. Even on York Ave. a lot of the garages run around $200 a month and you'd still have a lengthy walk or bus ride to the subway.

It's difficult to find any monthly contracts under $400 in prime Manhattan neighborhoods, but there are variables as to the type of vehicle as well within the location as SUVs, vans, and luxury cars have surcharges that regular passenger sedans do not. On the UES gold coast in the 60s and 70s, for example, it's about $600-$1200 for a regular space, before surcharges for the type of vehicle. The UWS falls into the same range, unless you are very far west, just as very far east on the UES prices fall into the ~$400 range.

In Midtown, the far west side is where you will find rates that are less expensive, perhaps around $300; just as can be found in parts of Harlem, Inwood, and Washington Heights where rates are mid $200s-$300+.

I pay $500 per month for a garage on UES. It's a valet garage which brings has its own issues if you have a nice car.

There are much cheaper garages downtime, I've seen some as low as $180 per month in the LES.

Offer some lots to pay in cash for 6 months at a time and they often will reduce rates. Uptown by Columbia U, I've gotten them down to $175 a month, but they were incredibly slow sometimes at retrieving my car- 8 to 15 minutes sometimes, which for me from an open air lot seems like a while.

Best deal is to buy an annual, renewable spot in the projects near where you live or work. Reserved spots run $650 on open air lots, $1225 for garages. Put your name down on a waiting list now, you do NOT need to be a resident, but you often may be on waitlist for years until your time comes up.

I now pay $54 a month for a reserved outdoor spot I can see from my living room.
