Going up to Manhattan for from 12/31/08 - 1/2/09. I am driving up there and my original thought was to leave my car in my old 'hood of Bay Ridge and take the subway into the city. I am staying around 44th and 2nd Avenue in the city and was wondering what the street parking situation was in that area? Is it easy to find a street parking spot near there?

Any advice would be appreciated.

It's not easy - put the car in a garage. Being near the UN makes it a real nightmare.

I agree, you'll also be in the city relatively close to times square on new years eve so a parking lot might be your safest bet if you want to park in the city.

Definitely a garage. I drive in the city all the time and it can be horrendous to try to find parking at any time during the holiday season.

Check New York City Parking Garage Rates - Compare Daily/Monthly - Manhattan for rates/reservations.

btw, parking around that area overnight will probably run you about $50 - $70 a night with an additional fee if you drive a SUV.

The garages have a field day on these type of days though. Maybe if you get there early you might find some kind of special offer though. I'm talking real early though.
