Okay. Gripe here, and I could use some advice, or at least some opinions on this.
Got ticketed two days in a row for parking in a school zone in upper manhattan.
The school on the street is NOT on the NYC DOE list of schools participating in summer school.
The tickets were given just after 7AM, and there is NO activity from teachers/administration at this time.
The law states, that 'when school functions are in session, or summer school' that may be considered a school day, to my knowledge none of that existed, and when calling the school operator no one picked up.
So... here's my questions-
* How is a motorist supposed to know what is a school day, and what isn't? If the school board decides to meet on Christmas Eve, how on earth would a motorist have any idea that is now a school day?
* If NYCDOE is using the building as a summer camp, does that count as a school day? I'm entitled to park on that street, I understand teachers and faculty have some preferred right to park there when they are doing their job of educating student, but just because others work for a private camp that is renting NYCDOE property, why shouldn't I have every same right to park there?
* How do you know exactly what school is tied to a particular school zone? There are 3 schools on the long street in question, and hundreds of schools in Manhattan- how am I to know which school I need to call and check is the listed school zone before parking somewhere?
This all seems like an absurd method that would be solved by just changing the signs to read no parking M-F, rather than school days. As I have seen it, these are NOT school days and I have every right to park there.

Just go online, enter the ticket number, plead not guilty and state your case. Be ready for it to take about two months, although I did get a ticket for expired registration thrown out recently.
Just don't park in a school zone, it isn't worth the headache.
Btw if there is anything occuring in school you are not allowed to park there. Nothing you can say will get you out of it if there is activity inside the school.

Understandable so, but isn't the sign INCREDIBLY deceptive if it says "No Parking 7-4 on School Days".
The NYCDOE renting the building out to a private summer camp, is not a school day. Nor is a non-teacher workday, nor school day but some undisclosed function happening at the school. There is absolutely NO way for anyone to know that... even calling the school and confirming there is no 'school day', and yet still receiving tickets leads me to question what exactly is going on.
I need law to be black and white, not up to interpretation of both the school, and the ticketing officer who has less idea of the schedule than I do.

The law is not black and white. School days are subjective, just read the sign as no parking from 7-4 Monday-Sunday.

I believe Vehicle Codes for citation have to be pretty black and white.
Should take it to court and subpeona the principal.
