So what are they doing?

Flitting from flower-to-flower?

Do they go away every morning around 7:30? Later?

It sounds like a visitation and not an infestation.

I noticed the same thing this morning. They used to stay around the rosemary bushes but now they are flitting around just above the grass. They seemed to stay in the grass until it warmed up. Curious to see if they do the same thing tomorrow.
I did have a hive of bumble bees in my rock wall that I had to call the exterminator to have removed because they were very aggressive. They stalked my dogs and attacked my landscaper. The bee specialist said that he was very surprised to see them 'in town'.

darlingcronk, I'm north of Ruidoso about 25 miles and every August or early September have bees in my courtyard. I just reframe from yard work for a time and they move on in a couple of weeks. They seem harmless to me and my animals. They seem to be part of the balance.

We don't change anything -- even do some pruning when the honey bees are here. Of course, maybe I am being foolish.

I have heard that you are not supposed to stand in the direct line (the bee line) between them and their hive, but I don't have much of an idea where the hive is -- except that given the local layout, the hive almost has to be to the south.

There are several feral hives on my property with bees that appear docile enough. The only problem is they are all over my 5 hummingbird feeders. I wouldn't mind giving away a couple of the feral hives so if there are any interested bee keepers in Las Cruces, let me know.

A little off-topic but when I saw this thread the John Belushi "Killer Bee" skits on SNL immediately popped in my head.
