Winter is really hanging on this year. A pleasant change after so many springs with no sign of moisture or green grass at this same time of year. See photo attached spliced together from web cam captures this morning at 10:30am - April 27, 2015.

Cerrillos, New Mexico:

Cerrillos is about 6 miles ahead, I think...

Casa Grande Trading Post, Petting Zoo & Cerrillos Turquoise Mining Museum. Go on in!

The Cerrillos Bar became known as Mary's Bar for filming the movie Vampires. The bar has also been used for the
Young Guns films:

Ran into a small grouping of elk right in the middle of town today but only one remained in view long enough to get my camera out of the glove compartment of my car. There was at least one other bull in velvet that could be a twin of the one that posed for me. The location is a vacant property right in the middle of the village of Ruidoso at the noon hour.

This past winter there was a herd of some 40 elk that roamed the village for a short period, doing damage to the golf courses, etc.

A view of Ruidoso in summer. Looking west at Sierra Blanca peak with the main drag through town shown at bottom of the photo, as seen from the Camelot area.

I know one thing: White Sands National Monument looks awesome from the air. On the way back from my job interview in Dec. 2012 in Alamogordo I flew back to Idaho from El Paso International Airport. I sat in a seat with a window view on the right side of the airplane. I saw this huge swirling of white in amongst the brown dirt landscape of the desert in a huge, largely flat area of the desert. Could that be the White Sands, I thought? Looked down again and figured out that it had to be. The jet was still gaining altitude and White Sands National Monument is really close to El Paso airflight-wise.

I didn't have my cell ready to snap a pic but I wish I had. It looked so cool from up there. Almost like a huge, flat ice glacier. Great to have had the chance to see it!

In another 6 years I am looking to retire. Just starting Orientation at this Dodge City, KS, job on Monday. But come retirement I am thinking either Arizona or New Mexico. And, I might be wrong, but New Mexico seems fairly retiree-friendly to me. At least with a quick thought about it.

For one, the housing is pretty reasonable for everyone. I'll bet Alamogordo still has an abundance of rental housing. Plus a 55+ mobile home option is a decent choice in many places in New Mexico, too. Looking at your pic of Ruidoso has me missing the place, yes it does. We'd go to Ruidoso fairly often while we lived in Alamogordo.
