Does anyone have any suggestions for places not too far from me for photographing birds, particularly shore/wading birds? Like an accessible wetlands area.
I've caught a few good pics at Sandy Hook, but I'm not paying $15 to get in there now.
I am in eastern Monmouth County, near Red Bank, so any place within 45 minutes to an hour would work.
The Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge is about an hour drive from Red Bank. It's right down the road from Smithville. Visiting both spots is a really good day trip.

Another place that I recently found out about but have not visited is the Harding Bird Sanctuary in Fair Haven.
Very cool. Thank you so much for your response. I think I will plan to take a ride soon. Yes, and hour or so seems about right. It's an hour and 20 for me to go to AC. I never knew of this wildlife refuge.

I went to the northernmost part of the Forsythe wildlife refuge, which is in Mantaloking and about 35 minutes from me...but I missed the part on the website about it being closed. Drove down early in the morning only to find barriers on the parking lot.
I'm also getting a little nervous about my tires for a long ride. I have snow tires on, and my regular all-weathers are in a garage in Ontario. Not sure whether I should go buy a third set of tires or risk ruining the snows.
