I'll be starting a summer job in Jersey City (near Exchange Place) next week and I'm wondering what parking would be like. What is street parking like? Are there cheap garages? How is the traffic coming from western Essex County? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Garage parking is expensive in that area ($200++) and I think street parking is somewhat limited.

A cheaper option is to park by Liberty Science Center and take the light rail to Exchange Place.

Traffic is also not great; avoid peak times if you can. parking at Liberty Sceince Center will also cut off some of the city traffic.

Alternatively, park further out at one of the PATH stations and take that into Exchange Place.

I park around Grove Street one time and it's $10 a day.

I think Liberty State park park&ride is the cheapest option. You can purchase monthly ticket with parking.

Another option is parking in Newark Penn and take PATH in. Parking is around 85-100 per month.

Thanks guys, although I probably should have been more clear in the OP... until the end of June I will only be working 3 days a week, therefor I wont be buying a monthly permit for any mode of transportation. My question for this thread would be the cheapest daily rates. For July/August when I will be working every day, I am planning on buying a monthly NJT rail pass to Hoboken and take the light rail from there.

I think your cheapest route would be to park at easiest PATH station for you to get to (Harrison? Newark?) and take the PATH in.

Even once you're going 5 days/week, this could be the cheaper choice.

As HalfFull stated, your best choice is parking at Harrison.

1. It's got the cheapest parking.

2. It's the shortest, most efficient drive (you'll save on time & gas).

The vast majority of PATH commuters from western Essex County park in Harrison. People have been doing so for decades. If there were a cheaper or easier place to park, they'd be doing it by now.

Ok thanks for the info. Is there one main parking facility in Harrison? Where specifically is the parking?

There's a big parking garage right next to the PATH station. Several levels high. Can't miss it.

Just FYI, I work near Exch Pl. There are a couple of garages or lots up Montgomery that charge only $8 for parking. You then have a 5 - 10 min walk, depending on where you're going. I did it once when I drove in. Not bad.

Perfect, that's exactly what I'm looking for. My office is on the corner of Montgomery and Greene. Thanks!
