I'm moving to Jersey City on May 1 to September 1 for an internship and am trying to decide if I should bring my car or not. From what I hear, it's near impossible to find parking there, and the rules are pretty strict. I'll be living near Belmont Ave, which is near McGinley Square. Just wondering what parking is like there and what the parking signs actually say, because I don't want to bring a car if it's next to impossible to find a spot, as I can see with google street view. Plus I can walk the 40 minutes to work or bike it in 15. From what I see online that parking zones apply to downtown Jersey City, and I have no idea what zone, if any, Belmont Ave is....any help is appreciated. Thanks.
If your job is inside the city, then i would recommend you not bring it. Parking is a major hassle and the laws that govern parking are pretty strict. Since youll be around that area you'll be right next to J.sq which is has our transit terminal i.e buses, trains, shuttles. So you can walk maybe 20min from your house to J.sq. So you really don't NEED a car, life will most likely be easier if you don't plan on going out to the burbs or something.
If you dont have a family, dont need to do huge food shopping, dont bring a a car. Lived (and happily left) jersey City. Sometimes took me 25 minutes to find street parking and this was in the heights. I learned real fast how to parallel park and fit in like a shoe horn. I also got several tickets too. Recommended do not bring a car if its only you.
yeah every where in jc is hard to find parking. You can pay for parking space in a lot around 100-200 a month. Usually there are many transportation in jc so no need to get a car, but its always good to have a car if you want to go to places
