They don't make exception either. I spoke with the superintendent to make an exception for my daughter who birthday is 10/10 and she said no. Her secretary said her daughter's birthday is 10/2 and have to waited a year. Fvcking bureaucrat.
I saw a website that said Nov 31 for all of NJ - is that true or is by district? Thanks!
This is definitely UNtrue. I don't recall any schools that have such a late cutoff. Most are October 1. A friend of mine whose kid's birthday is September 1 had an August 31 cutoff in her Bayonne district.

At one time the way aound that would be to send your child to a private school that had a kindergarden,( Catholic schools used to have a cut off of 12/31 ) now most private schools follow the cut off date of district they are in.
Wow that is late. I could never figure out why so many districts went to early cut off dates especially when most kids have been in day care for 2-3 years and should be ready for kindergarden

I never understood either. I'm moving from NY to NJ and currently in my town, the cutoff is Dec 31. My daughter was born Nov 2 and has been in daycare since she was 3 months old. She will be entering Pre-K tomorrow and is always the youngest in her class and have been doing very well, academically and socially.
When we got notice we have to relocate (due to hubby's job), our main concern was having to 'hold' her back, which would not be in her best interest. Luckily there are a few towns in NJ where they make exception if your child go to a private kindergarten and can enter 1st grade even if not 6 by Oct 1. Springfield, of course, is one of the towns we are looking at.

Most NJ towns will honor the grade that the child is going into when moving from out of state - when I moved from NYC to NJ my son went into the grade he would have gone into in NYC even though his birthday is Dec. 6 and the cut-off was Oct. 1.
