My daughter is born on Nov 3rd. She is now in Pre K3 but we see that she is bored and not challenged enough as all other kids in her class are smaller, younger than her and she doesn't have engaging activity at school.
The schools in my area have cut off dates Sept 15th or Oct 1st.
Any schools accepting kids with Nov 3rd date of birth ?
I did get some suggestions saying I could join her in a private school for year in KG and then any public school would accept her to first grade. But would keep that as a last option as I see the cost of private school is running into about $15,000 per year.
My advice is to supplement at home or with additional offerings out of the home. Pushing the age requirement and ending up being the very youngest in the class can present other social issues.
The Dec 31st cut offs are long gone in NJ, the latest I've seen is 10/15, as far as private schools from what I've been told the Catholic private schools observe the public school cut off date of town they are in now and no longer cut off at 12/31, you may have to go with the ultra private school or just wait until she meets the cut off
at least in my town they will take a child who has completed 1st grade, no matter what age. so if you put your child in a private school for K and 1 (of course they have to have a later cut off), in 2nd grade you can xfer to public.
Just wanted to mention that redshirting is becoming quite common in many of the "better" districts in NJ. A decent number of kids with summer birthdays (and even late spring ones, in some cases) are being held back to start K once they've already turned 6. That means that your still-4 year old could be starting K with kids who are a full 18 months or more older than your daughter, which is a huge gap at that age. The other side of that coin is that she might not be so much older than her classmates if she starts school "on time" a couple of months before she turns 6.
That said, if you'd be willing to consider parochial school, I'm sure you could find some options in almost any area for far less than $15K. As tahiti mentioned, it's my understanding that a number of districts will let you transition your kid into public, but they need to complete both K and 1st grade before doing so.
Tahiti, if you don't mind me asking, which school district are you referring to ?
IMHO, not commutable to NYC, if sanity is a concern. Western Morris County.
