Sadly, looks like lunch tomorrow is a no-go. Maybe we can reschedule with citymama AND N.Cal once you get back!

Wonder what happened to mrsmiscellanea?

I too am a NorCal Native. Moved from Sac in 1999 to Tampa for a few years. Sold the house in Tampa 2005 and moved up to Sumner County.

Couldn't be happier here in Mid TN.

Totally wouldn't agree with that. We lived in a 1200sf bungalow in a "transitioning" neighborhood in Oakland. Gunshots and prostitutes a stones throw away. We made more than we do now and were still struggling to make the payments.

Here...we can choose from several safe neighborhoods and still afford to do fun things and I get to choose to stay home with the kids. AND I'm not constantly stressed out from "life" like I was in CA.

lol!

I won't admit this to my CA friends and family, but we are probably never moving back. Makes me sad to say that out loud, but determined to start heavily campaigning to get them all to move out here!! It will be tough though, as I spent a good amount of our first year here not painting the prettiest picture of Tennessee. I was a miserable soul.

Guess it boils down to housing (the biggest factor in cost of living), if you rent, you are better off in CA (higher salary, lower rent). If you own house, you are better off in TN (lower salary, much cheaper housing)

How funny! We are moving from the Nashville area to Sacramento soon! Personally I hate living in Tennessee , though Nashville is generally better than a lot of other areas. Yes, it's low cost of living, but there are disadvantages too. I certainly am not going to try to talk you out of it, though. You have to do what works best for you and your family. We are moving to Sac to be near extended family, and because we love California - it fits our lifestyle (liberal, not bible-thumping, lots more people into natural/crunchy living and parenting). Franklin is a beautiful area, though, and has great schools, shopping, etc. However, it is expensive for this area.
