so what are the songs that make you think of L.A. ? My first are:

Randy Newman's - I love LA (there's a new rap song out that sample's it, too)
X - Los Angeles
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge

"California Dreaming" of-course is a classic that always makes me remember how warm it is here during winter. Then there is "Hollywood"; another oldie. Most of the Beach Boys songs also.

Gosh, let's see...

"Classic Girl" by Jane's Addiction reminds me of being in my first apartment downtown in the early morning.
"Midnight at the Oasis" by Maria Muldaur and "Dancing in the Moonlight" by King Harvest always make me think of some imagined party in the evening on, like, Hermosa Beach. Or Newport Beach with the firepits.
"Alone Again Or" by Love makes me think of the desert for some reason.
Anything by The Minutemen reminds me of being on the freeway at midday in the summer.
"Just Like Honey" by Jesus and Mary Chain reminds me of being on the freeway at night.
"All Summer Long" reminds me of the quad at lunchtime in junior high school.
"Give It Time" by The Woodentops is about reminiscence in general.

Missing Persons - Walking in LA

And everything by the Cars, especially Heartbeat City and Drive. I know they're a Boston band, but they seem so LA -- from their sunny new wave sound to the name Cars! They're great to listen to while driving around in the car, which is my favorite thing to do in LA

Please excuse me while I blow chunks and try to keep it from fouling my keyboard and monitor...

Okay, The Doors, L.A. Woman.

Jeez, you sucked me in!
