Laurel Masse, former member of Manhattan Transfer covered Interlude on her first solo album "Alone Together" in 1984. it's a really beautiful song and version; in fact the entire album is one of the best albums i have ever heard
Yes, Laurel Massé is a great singer. I've loved her singing since her ManTran days. This is one of those few other vocal versions of "Interlude" that I've heard. It's quite a contrast with Christy's version--Massé chose a very sparse treatment that showcases her lovely voice quite well--only her and piano and she only sings one verse. I would actually rate Massé as having slightly better "pipes" than Christy, but Rugolo's wonderful orchestration of his own tune adds a lot to the Christy version, and June Christy had an understated emotional "edge" that lurked below the surface in her singing that not many vocalists can tap. So, here we have two very contrasting but lovely versions of an obscure tune that deserves a lot more attention.
...yawn... been there, done that... nothing
new or original is revealed in that path
... What may be disturbing is that you
would be accepted, though you move in
the world expecting not to be. If that's your
form of reality, nobody will interfere in it. You
will be left to it. ....

I had chatted with laurel on an e mail chat board she had set up 7 years ago. i recalled telling her how much i liked alone together and asked her about interlude in particular. i don't remember precisely what she said to me about it but i think she did acknowledge it as an obscurity too
i liked laurel's style better than the girl who replaced her in 79 cheryl bentyne but still cheryl was still good too
i also asked laurel about tunes they sung at the concerts i saw in 92 and 99
:: rushes upstairs to say hi to everyone...

For you, MadAtMcCain, since you posted a John Coltrane tribute--try this one, "Goodbye, Mr. Evans"--a tribute to the late jazz pianist Bill Evans--covered here by Scott Hamilton. It was originally recorded by Phil Woods, but I actually like the Hamilton version better. I don't play this one very often--it was the mutual favorite of my now very ex-fiancé and me. She's long gone (good riddance), but I still like the tune . . .
... seeks first night's watery baptism...
soft rumble of waterfall...
strips and bundle clothing...
grits teeth... plunge
shoulders spasm shock...
mouth open to its silvery light..
rushing waters!
wash me from last nite's light...
leave only earth's ache for spring
as scent... pounding waters!
sweep away rage's temptations!
Purify My Will as Thy Holy Steel!
Shoulders lift... retreats back
to bundle... moccasin, feet...
secure loin cloth... then prostrates in muddy
clay... silently rolls... covers flesh..
like an elephant taking dust bath...
legs explodes in power... trail's journey rugged...
swift... ... hands clawing aire... thighs leaps
pass brush... trail melts under moccasin's hard
pounding...
land swerves and sways like a restless belly
dancer... impatiently rising to meet each
pounding foot... speeding faster the climb ahead...
Hands grips overhang... lightning streaks
skies... affronting destiny's partnership...
calves propel deeper... as thundering horses
dodge cloudy cliffs... a quivering earth
responds... opening softness for moccasin feet...
runs...
thighs push aside greedy underbrush's
reach to entangle...
dried-mud torso slips pass branch clingings... wait now girl... careful... wait...
squats in long grass... torso slowly gyrates ...
tasting wind's direction... downwind.. moves
into crouch... horse-thunder moves on... heart
calls out its Thanks and Blessing... moves right
toward black saw-tooth ridges... stops...
lowers... nite creatures active... too loud...
waits...
...mists dip into the small gulleys...
dew kisses from every surface...
her window plainly seen... heart chants... use Me wetness... use Me to bring
the path under control...
...heart gently penetrates plaster and wood...
astral wolf moves 'long first floor... pauses at
foster parent's door... creaking bed...
then silence... licks aire... retreats quickly
leaping upstairs... turns corner to her room...
trees rustle... bends and sways... in nite's womb...
:: whispers :: ...call now... a soft cooing... baby...
by the light of Sirius! Dog Star in nite skies!
feel My love's protective whirl...
exposing need's swollen ache...
ancestral sweat clings hotly
in such tropical heat... Where there is Only... LOVE!!!

.... moves along pathyway... as long folds of cloth billow wind's
direction on this sunny day... now where is the dance center...
footfalls comes to a stop... hesistant... see Gerania and Sir MMC
talking through glass ... smiles to self and am immediately calmed
... hears drumming... hurries along path to where it seems to
be coming from ... rounding a corner, a circular shaped
auditorium appears... right next door!
The Complete Assaf Warm-Up - Broadway Dance Center
.... enters through open door to a loud semi-crowded room
of dancers... Assaf is talking now... each style leading away
from the main room like a bicycle rim... for now.. all dancers
are warming up together....
.... signals the warm-up instructors to ignore my presence...
this one is here to observe only... watches an instructor
work privately with one dancer in the far corner...
.... footsteps... a young man smiles as he brings over a
chair for sitting... Thanking him, attention is drawn to a
smaller room just off to an angle...
:: have wee mins only... runs up the path
and rounds the bend... open auditorium
door... shades eyes a moment and seeing
Ms. Rare... let door go ... smiles... striding over
to her side with a quick kneel of knee...
elbow resting on other knee ... leans
over and whispers ::
Thank ye Lady for the Horse Show, the music
accompanying the show... and all
ye gives.... indeed Joy was given to share a
moment with thee... such horses too!
:: eyes twinkles... beams a smile... beeper
goes off... lean in giving Ms. Rare a hug...
rises slightly... a gentle pat on cheek and
quick squeeze to thy hand... whispers ::
Just wanted to show My appreciation for
such a gesture... Thank thee Ma'am... :: eyes
smiling... straightens... bows ... waves then
hurries back... happy ye have found pleasure
once again in dance... whistles ... goes thru
door and disappears 'round winding road... ::
