Why India? Why not Germany or Britain, for instance?
Germany and Britian have cultures worth studying, but India is a much larger 1 bill.+ and in the 21st century is "more" important. I am not trying to be rude, but to me it sounds ignorent to say Germany or Britian have more worthwhile cultures than India.
It would sort of be like saying why learn about LA when you could learn about Phoenix and San Antonio?

Indeed. Germany and Britain's cultures much more similar to the culture of the United States. While learning about them is valuable, it is good for people to expose themselves to cultures that are drastically different from their own. A lot of problems we have as a society stem from the fact that people fear people who are different from them.
Also, Slumdog is a British movie. There are a lot of Indian people living in Britain. This movie is part of British culture as well.
old thread but I think Slumdog was a difficult movie to film and direct... I think Danny Boyle did an astonishing job with that and it was very deserving of all the accolades it got.

Because the movie is based on a novel by an Indian author and it's set in India...
