Tim Burton's only worthwhile movie in years. He should stick to animation IMO. He's becoming an embarassment and has managed to drag Johnny Depp and his wife down too...
I completely agree. I believe I'm the only one who abhors those hideous pirate movies. His character is fine... but, the movies don't have him in it long enough. I think Gilbert Grape was the last Depp movie I really enjoyed. He seems to have sold out. His live-in girlfriend (or formerly according to recent news)... what's her name... is so blase & gap toothed, I find it hard to watch her awful movies.
I guess I'm filled with opinions today. No worries, I'll see myself out.
Prometheus. Great special effects but other than that, a bit overrated, I give it 6/10 overall. It was very slow and lame the first 3/4. The whole movie lacked good "alien" action.
I still cannot tell the connection to the original Alien movies. This movie could almost be a separate thing with a few similar parts at the most.
Bullhead. Now that is what a movie! If you like European drama movies, you should enjoy it.
It was great. I give it a very modest 9/10 just for the awesome acting alone.
Repulsion by Roman Polanski (1965). It was alright, definitely not the best horror film of all time as is often claimed. Old movies are way overrated. If that exact same movie had been made today it would be considered mediocre at best.
Just watched Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind again for about the 20th time. If I ever stop loving this movie, I won't want to live with myself anymore. I recently bought this wonderful art book of watercolor concept drawings and magazine covers (for the serialized manga), and it's been really fascinating to see Hayao Miyazaki's creative process that eventually led to this movie. For about three years he drew out all his ideas on paper, and you can see them evolve and grow until they eventually became the story of Nausicaä. And just as interesting, many of the ideas that didn't make it into that film did find their way into many of his later films.
