This guy just doesn't seem to make a bad movie, similar to P.T. Anderson.

Is this the first time ever the Germans aren't the bad guys?

Saw "The Death of Stalin" on Saturday (terrific cast, very funny), and "Isle of Dogs" on Sunday (amazing animation, interesting story). Two thumbs up for both.

May I rant? Oh, heck, I'm gonna do it anyway without anyone's permission.

So I know that the title of this thread is: "What is the last movie you have watched", but could we go just a teeny bit beyond and include "Yes, I liked this movie" or "No, I hated this movie" instead of simply listing the movie...especially where it concerns a film that's currently being shown in theaters? You don't need to write a full-blown review. Just tell us if you liked it...or not.

Rant over...

We saw "The Quiet Place" yesterday. It was good.

I will say this: it rather begs for a sequel. Not a sequel in the traditional sense, however.

This is not giving anything away: the movie is set in an isolated farm, where to avoid detection from aliens with an acute sense of hearing, the family must be quiet.

The implication in the movie is that the invasion has occurred around the world, not just at this one farm.

It got me thinking: it would have made a very good movie in other settings, such as a towering apartment building in New York City or a hotel in Las Vegas.

My thought is akin to a science fiction series of books, The Silo series. The basis for the books is that, due to a nuclear war, the survivors live in vast, underground silos (that extend some 900 stories underground; they had planned ahead well).

The initial book is set in one particular silo, and examines how civilization has adapted and evolved in this self-contained world (for no one can step outside). The residents of this silo do not know that there are actually other such silos in the world.

As such, the author was able to set other books in different silos, each somewhat different. Indeed, the author (growing tired of it, I guess) encouraged 'fan fiction' creating their own silo worlds (a couple of which were themselves excellent).

Such is the case here. We had a story about one family in a farm house. There could be other movies about families in other situations.

Not that I would watch more such movies, but it is a thought.

7/10

Unknown is a 2011 psychological action film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, starring Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones, Aidan Quinn, Bruno Ganz, and Frank Langella.[5] The film is based on the 2003 French novel published in English as Out of My Head, by Didier Van Cauwelaert.[6] Released in the United States on February 18, 2011, the film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed $136 million against its $30 million budget.

Daddy’s Home 2 (2017)

Better sequel than I expected, but not as good as the first - 6-7/10.

Barakah Meets Barakah (Arabic: بركة يقابل بركة‎ Hejazi pronunciation: [baraka jiˈgaːbɪl baraka]) is a 2016 Saudi Arabian drama-comedy film directed and written by Mahmoud Sabbagh, a remarkably candid Saudi Arabian love story which uses stabs of acerbic humor as a counterweight to the difficulties the couple face.[1] Principal photography of Barakah Meets Barakah began on 25 September 2015 and ended on 22 October, and was shot entirely in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The film was selected as the Saudi Arabian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 89th Academy Awards (the second time the country made a submission for the Oscars)

Quote:
Saudi Arabia’s first rom-com features comedian and social-media superstar Hisham Fageeh as a mild-mannered civil servant who runs up against his society’s strict mores when he sets out to romance the outspoken daughter of a wealthy couple.

"Nell" with Jodie Foster, Liam Neeson, Natasha Richardson

This is another one I can watch again and again.

Jodie plays a young woman who has grown up in the woods with her aging mother and twin sister, who died at an early age. She has developed her own language based on her mother who had suffered several strokes and "twin speak".

Liam plays a DR and Natasha plays a Psychologist, who help Jodie after her mother dies.

Great performance by Jodie Foster.
