It's an okay movie. I don't love it. I don't hate it. Honestly, I have a bit of a hard time watching it because my wife looked a lot like Rebecca DeMornay in that movie when we got married, and it's a little icky watching someone who looks like my wife have sex with Tom Cruise.

Because you're divorced now, or because you're nowhere near the stud Tom is?

And man, that amazing ELECTRONIC musical score by Tangerine Dream is something else.

I honestly don't remember it. The only thing I remember about the music in that movie is that thanks to RB, I never never never never never again want to hear "Old Time Rock n' Roll" by Bob Seger. Not a bad song, but it is the most overplayed song of all time. It proves the rule that too much of a good thing turns into a very bad thing.

You haven't seen it since '84 or what?

The score is anything but subtle. It's interwoven throughout the film to heighten tension and enhance mood. Some of the music is derived from their 1979 album Force Majeure. Fantastic.

There's no way my parents would have let me watch it in '84. I probably last watched it some time in the mid '90s. Just not a movie I care to revisit very often. Not bad. But not a movie that warrants multiple viewings.

That's why we waited till they were asleep and snuck out of our rooms to watch R-rated movies. Or was this a societal taboo in Maine back in the day? I had to get over to my oldest bro's house to watch Heavy Metal. Somehow, all the other kids' parents let them watch it when it showed up on HBO. They knew I read the mag, and wouldn't stop talking about how "dirty" the movie was, which only made me want to see it more.
