The sardonic, mordant Eve Arden is one for the ages. If only we could get "Our Miss Brooks" on DVD - she really got a chance to shine in that.

I visited her grave at Westwood Cemetery and her plaque says, "The World Will Remember". What a nice tribute.
ITA... a friend of mine got to meet her years ago at an exhibition of her husband's paintings...he said she was absolutely lovely and engaging.

I didn't see Barbara Stanwick or Robert Taylor mentioned - and for shame that no one mentioned Marilyn until the 4th page!

Well I really don't think of them as movie stars but in that case let's add Jack Benny. He still cracks me up just with his deadpan. And he was great in "To Be or Not to Be".

BTW Sockeye - Burt is in the same cemetery as Eve Arden. Since it is his cremated remains buried he just has a tiny plaque (seemed like six inches) on the ground with his name and 1913-1994 underneath.
