Industry anxious because people aren't rushing back to theaters (cinemas, movie theater, Hollywood)

I'm hoping to go out to the movies sometime in the next week or so, and I hope theaters bounce back well. But it seems crazy to imagine that people will suddenly rush out for the first big movie that opens.
Movie Theaters Returned. Audiences Didn’t. Now What?
People aren’t going to the movies at anywhere close to the numbers that Hollywood hoped, prompting studios to postpone more big releases. Marvel’s “Black Widow” could be the next to retreat.

They have not yet opened in my area, when we went, there was normally only 10 people at most in the theater, so I have no worries about returning to matinees. Never had to pass a person in the same row, so social distancing will be easy.
Hard pass. Even if you stagger people in the rows you usually have to stand up for them to get by. That's too close.
Yeah, if I go back, I would definitely opt for a theater that has reclining seats because there's typically a wider walkway. At my theater, I can be fully reclined and people can still walk past.

Ya, those are great. Most of the older ones pack as many people in them as possible just like sports stadiums. It looks like everyone is doing the wave when someone has to get up for snacks or restroom breaks.
Even before the pandemic, I was down to going maybe 3 or 4 times a year at the most. I love movies, but audiences have become so rude and discourteous that it ruins the movie for me. I'd rather wait 2-3 months for the DVD so I can enjoy the movie.
I mean, it's challenging for them like so many other industries. It sucks, but it's going to take time.
The problem is that many theaters may not be able hang on long enough to survive the pandemic. We're seeing that in lots of other areas as well, of course (travel, indoor dining, concerts, etc.). It's sad to see formerly-profitable businesses (especially small ones) go under because of something that is completely out of their control.
Fingers crossed that my own favorite local cinemas will be able to survive.
