The original movie was very fresh and extremely well done. Sequel was as meh as the Crocodile Dundee sequel that did more or less the same thing (reverse the whole situation and stand back).
I find the original interesting for a minor reason: Pat Morita reverting to his real name. Quite a bit to unpack there that "Noriyuki Morita" never would have gotten traction in Hollywood, even for largely stereotyped roles... but come the day, "Pat Morita" wasn't sufficiently ethnic enough for the movie role. Fairly well before the political-correctness forces that made such things common; it was just a movie business decision both ways.
Therblig, yes, the original was a sort-of Rocky/underdog movie for teens... But boy did he get wimpier over the series!!
Just saw an article about how he dropped out of acting to raise his family, tied to the new series (which interests me less than zero...) I would guess he made a pretty fair pile from the three movies, and if like Bill Mumy and other young actors with a wise financial head to guide them, really never had to work again.
Which was good, as he was perfect for the first movie but did not grow into a more capable actor. I think he was the one about which a major critic said "prepubescent shrillness is not an acting method."
AFtrEFkt, it is odd that in Part 2 he fought against a man trying to literally KILL him, but didn't seem to be visibly afraid. And in Part 3 he is so scared of the guy who is a tournament fighter!!!
Part 3 - Pretty good (because I like it's the continuation of the story).
Part 4 - Didn't care for (this is the one w/ Hilary Swank)
Remake - Didn't care for (w/ Jaden Smith & Jackie Chan)
Cobrai Kai episodes - LOVE! It' brings back the nostalia we all loved from the movies, but w/ some fresh, interesting storylines too.
