Following news from earlier this week that Jason Reitman will be directing a new Ghostbusters film, it is now being reported that the main characters are going to be teenagers. The new film is set to be a sequel to the 1984 original, evidently disregarding 2016’s all-female reboot from Paul Feig.
All due respect to Ms. Jones, but she's missing the point entirely. It isn't that Reitman wants to get rid of the ladies and replace them with teenagers. It is that the Ghostbusters movie she was in just wasn't very good. It wasn't horrible. When credits started rolling, I wasn't mad I'd spent my time watching it. But I have absolutely no desire to ever watch it again. It just wasn't very good. Not her fault. Not any of the cast's fault. Blame is entirely on the writer and director. It was a bad movie.
Agreed. I love GHOSTBUSTERS. It still holds up as on of the funniest movies of the 1980s. But even the first sequel GHOSBUSTERS II was mediocre at best.
I was totally not sold on the idea of the teenagers being new Ghostbusters either. But after seeing the trailer, I'm a lot more optimistic about it.
Yes, I think it would be awesome if Paul Rudd put together a group of adults, but I love the tie-in to the original 2 movies. I like the fact that Aykroyd, Murray, Hudson, Weaver & Potts will be in this one too.
I appreciate that they seem to be trying to actually make a new story rather than "another Ghostbusters adventure."
