If this new sequel has an agenda they are keeping it hidden well and hopefully it will be secondary to the storytelling.
I keep pointing to The Expanse as the way to do that kind of thing organically. Heck, The Expanse has even shown us a couple of group marriages...and they did it totally cool. No press releases or anything.

I saw this tonight. I enjoyed it. I thought the kids being the main characters was going to be cheesy, but it really wasn't. Only thing I didn't like was
Spoiler
They rehashed too many things from the original movie. Dogs, keymaster/gatekeepers thing, confrontation with Gozer. I was ok with Gozer coming back, but wish it would have been a little more original.
At the same time, it felt the movie was an homage to the original ghostbusters, especially Harold.

There is a post credit scene.

I watched this last night, and I enjoyed it a lot. But I just have one thing that I'm a bit puzzled on:

Spoiler
Just how does Callie (Egon's daughter) fit into the timeline? The first movie took place in 1984, the second one in 1989, and this one in 2021. Callie didn't seem to exist in the first two, so presumably she was born in 1990 at the earliest. This makes her 31 now....with her oldest child being 15. So either Callie was a young teen mom, or Egon did pretty much ignore her when she was a young child.

Kinda have to ignore things like that. Also ignore that Ecto-1 has gas.

I thought the movie had fun moments, but it's not a comedy like the original, but more of a Gooneys-style kids adventure.

The Drinker gave it a mediocre review.

Well, I agree with his appraisals regarding the other three GB films.

I haven't wanted to see a "Ghostbusters" movie since the first sequel came out

I liked it, the 14 year old in me loved it. I love that this one did not crap all over the original, the 2016 reboot was not as awful as people said it was but I felt like it was a kick in the nad's to the fans of the original, and the messed up part was that movie would have gotten much less hate if the main characters were playing the daughters and/or nieces of the original GhostBusters but nope they choose the route of elevating women by wiping the original cast out of existence.

Now afterlife is how you do a soft reboot which is always the best choice as it pays respect to what came before while introducing a modern cast(with a male AND female cast).

Yeah, that's a head scratcher all right.
