And I think that's because there's actual thought in to this story (or at least seems to be)
The all female Ghostbusters was basically just that. "Let's re-do the Ghostbusters but this time with women"
This is "Let's take the original story, and pick it up 30 years later tying in references to the originals."
Agreed.. Looks like the kids are the grandchildren of Egon.. I went into the trailer not expecting much, and when it finished.. I was mildly excited to see this. Story appears interesting. I just hope they don't turn this into some kind of environmental message movie.. Because I also got that out of the trailer.
Some are probably looking at that oddly.. Well, follow along here. I get the idea that Egon may have taken the ghosts from New York and buried them out in the middle of nowhere in Oklahoma and the storage unit is degrading and now the ghosts are escaping and they're using it as a parallel to nuclear waste or something along those lines.
I'll say that it looks intriguing but I'm not sold. From the trail it doesn't appear to have any of the comedic sense of the first two films, it feels more like Stranger Things.

I got that feeling too but that’s okay I liked Stranger Things. This looks darker then the original movies too.

That's why I'm not sold on it. I'm interested and will reserve my final judgement until later, but from the only trailer we have to go by it feels to me like it lacks the fun of the originals.
I definitely thought the same thing as well, it does seem to lack some comedy. I'm hopeful that it's just because it's the first trailer and they are trying to sell us on the idea that the Ghostbusters franchise is back and it's going in a different direction. They didn't even show the original 'busters (not sure what role Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd & Ernie Hudson will have in it, but I know that they, along with Annie Potts & Segourney Weaver, are all going to be in this one)
I'll see it regardless, but if there isn't some good comedy in it, I'll definitely be disappointed

The first GHOSTBUSTERS was one of the best comedies of the '80s. Hilarious and still quotable. GHOSTBUSTERS II ... ? I think I laughed twice. Just not a good movie at all.
I hope this new movie isn't too serious --- SUPER 8 with ghosts. But I am glad that they seem to be trying to make the story its own thing. More sequels should do that.

I agree with you that a sequel should ideally stand on its own. That said, they should still carry the same feel and spirit of what came before. If they don’t, why make it as a sequel and not its own franchise? It’s definitely a tricky thing to do well though.
I’ll have to disagree with you on Ghostbusters II. While I agree that the first movie is superior, I still enjoy the second. It may be my relative youth. I was a Ghostbusters obsessed kid when II came out. At the time I was probably going to love it no matter what.

I watched II somewhat recently.. It's not bad.. It's just.. Not great, either. And it had to try to live up to the first one which was great. The whole Statue of Liberty thing was.. poorly thought out. I won't put it down on the level of Mannequin IIn the Move or Weekend at Bernies II.
I rather hope they can talk Rick Moranis into making a cameo. I miss him.
Part of the movie was ruined for me when I found out that the movie was originally written for John Belushi. I can't really watch the original anymore without subbing him in for Bill Murray.
