I would have to say Truffaut's 1964 film "The Soft Skin" (La Peau Douce) ..it stars Catherine Deneuve's older sister ...Francoise Dorleac (Dorleac is their real last name) ...whose life was tragically cut short when she was killed in a car crash in 1967 ....fortunately I can understand french well enough to watch it without squinting to read the english subtitles ... simple enough story ...successful middle age man having an affair with a pretty young airline flight attendent ....but it is the way Truffaut presents it in a way that is fascinating ... I also really like another french film from 1969 ..."Secret World" starring a young Jacqueline Bisset ...she speaks flawless french (not dubbed) ....unfortunately it is a very rare film not availble on DVD (or even VHS) .... another rare movie I last saw more than 20 years ago is a german film ..."A Degree of Murder" ...it stars Anita Palinberg and features music by the late Brian Jones (of Rolling Stones fame) ...they were a couple when the film was shot in late 1966 ...Jimmy Page played guitar on the soundtrack ....in addition to an amazing soundtrack the movie is quite good and ahead of it's time in terms of style and composition

So, what do you think?

Visually, I think the film is stunning, and I was enthralled by the bittersweet story. Did you find it at a movie rental?

I really liked Volver. I'm not sure it was my favorite Almodvar movie, that might still be Bad Education (which is pretty intense). Volver was really good, though.
Dont8Me, l really like all your choices--though I have not seen Mephisto.
It's plot vaguely reminded me of another fascinating movie:
Europa, Europa
A boy in Nazi Germany, trying to conceal that he is Jewish, joins the Hitler Youth.

I have seen Volver and I did like it. As BWP I am not sure it is the best Almodovar's movie but it is still worth watching it.

Tried to rep you, but I have to spread it around first.

Has anyone seen Tampopo? I have heard this is an excellent Japanese movie and if it's any good I'll try to get my hands on a copy of it.

Default The Band's Visit (2007)

I have this in my queue (I missed its brief visit to theaters here) and look forward to it. Has anyone here seen it?
