OTOH, this is a regurgitation of a fairly old comic story, so people already knew the lost would be revived.
Unless Fiege holds a press conference and says, "Hey, you know that stuff we've been saying about future movies? Psych! Bwaahaahaaa!"
Actually, I think I would have liked that.
We all know Chris Evans is done as Captain America. I suspect Downey won't be far behind him. Marvel now has the rights back to do the X-Men and Fantastic Four. INFINITY WAR was the perfect opportunity to literally "blow up the universe" and start over. But I very much doubt that is happening.

I think Fiege will present the real "loss" in the story in its second half--which, frankly, is how the story should play out.
The first half should end in the crisis that all the power with which the protagonist(s) began the story proves futile to prevent. So in the second half, the protagonist(s) will have to change--to grow to something more, to give up something that has been inhibiting, or to make a sacrifice he had been hesitant to make before. When the protagonist essentially has to become a different person to succeed, you get a satisfactory conclusion.
This is basically the story of the Avengers, so the Avengers is a group protagonist that must go through that process. I'm predicting Cap and Ironman will both sacrifice themselves in Avengers 4.
The problem with Thanos though, they can never ever top him with another villain though, so in that regard the future for this franchise is really limited now.
As I recall, there are at least three characters with more power than Thanos. Then again....getting all the stones changes things. Then again....he seemed to have lost the glove at the end.
