3run: I say REAL N. CA which is NORTH of Reno, Tahoe, Susanville. NObody seems to think much on that one. When Reno,NV started infiltrating our little area, hubby was retiring and we moved to ID. Best decision EVER! Then Helena was close to grandkids...still wondering if that was a good decision? lol

I'm from Montana, and I'm embarrassed and ashamed of the anti-California comments. To classify a person based on where they're from is the essence of bigotry. I've met more offensive people from Texas, but I still welcome them, just like everyone else.

In my opinion, I have met some wonderful people and give great respect to Montanans who have deep heritage in this state. It took great courage to carve a life out of this area. My grandfather brought his family of 13 to California to live and work and prosper. Imagine that family and kids crossing the prairie in horse and wagons. Too many people today forget where they came from and how. The few that "hate" where they were yet try to change the life style or etc to what they left is the causation of the bad feelings towards "new comers"

For the most part it's a non issue for me. I've not really experienced any negative comments, sans maybe 'two' and that's all. However- I get ASKED all the time where I am from. That really did'nt happen in WV to me. Other than 'where's your clan or 'kin' from'.

Either way I take no mind to it. I figure no one should. You're American, enjoy your country wherever you wish and be yourself.

In regards to Montanans' mistrust of Californians I believe that most Montanans are simply trying to keep a nice place nice. I don't know many Californians who would consider their state a success at the moment. The reason Montanans are generally wary of Californians is because they tend to want to change the state to conform with the same ideas that ruined California. Obviously California's problems are shared by many other states and Montana has its fair share of problems as well. California gets the brunt of the ire in Montana simply because it's geographically closer than other, similar states. I'm simply pointing out that this is the way it is in Montana and it would be disingenuous to not warn people moving here ahead of time that this may be an issue they will encounter. If people find the attitude here bigoted or insensitive they are more than welcome to not live here and I would completely understand if they chose to tell all their friends and family to not move here as well. In fact it would be entirely reasonable to inform extended family and possibly even write an op-ed warning people to not move to Montana. In the event that despite all their ill feelings toward the state they are forced to move here, I believe most Montanans would be kind and understanding when they arrived in Missoula.

Your warm and open attitude reflects what I have experienced so far in Ronan, Montana. More importantly, your approach to a potential new neighbor is what helped build America. It transcends which particular state a person might be from, and focuses on both the grit it takes to prosper, and the recognition that neighborly cooperation was a cornerstone to founding America. I am "repping" you separately in recognition of your grandfather's contribution. If more people today reflected upon his courage, determination, and work ethic, I wouldn't worry so much about this Country's future.

Amen and well-said, neighbor.

Three different folks stopped by to plow out our drift-bound driveway yesterday. No one expected money, they just wanted to do the neighborly thing - since they own heavy equipment and we don't.

Be a good neighbor = Get a good neighbor. It still seems to work wherever you go.

My husband and I are looking to relocate to either Bozeman or Helena, we are looking to rent a house or trailer (not in a park), we are looking in a small town or something just outside of a town, can a person rent something like this for about 500.00 to 800.00 a month. We have 2 hound dogs, we hunt, fish, camp, we do mountain man events, we are good folk. We live in a small farming community at the present time. Any assistance would be appreciated. Is there a site on the computer that we can look at to help us with this move.
