At fairs and powwows you can probably also get fry bread with ground beef and beans--they call them Indian tacos. Pretty good! I prefer fry bread with honey, but then you have to go on a diet for 3 days to undo the carb assault! I was visiting a res with a market and a great tribal deli, and I had them make me a fresh fry bread sandwich with ham and cheese--not traditional, but it was just about the best travel sandwich I've ever had!

Fry bread is fine, but I prefer a good scone, made with yeast, to have that light puffy melt in your mouth feel. I had the opportunity to make about 400 fry breads the other day...with some very good Blackfoot friends. Fry bread dough is traditionally made with baking powder or baking soda.

Isn't fry bread a recent 'staple' due to the past U.S. Gov't supplies of staples like lard, flour, baking soda/powder etc? Totally not an original diet.

Personally I can't stand fry bread- too greasy and too loaded with carbs. I'm not fond of deep fried foods other than chicken.

You forget to add "Camping" to your recipe. I too don't really care for fry bread, but when you add in a little camping, it tastes pretty damn good.

True, fry bread is a sign and symbol of oppression. But, it is fun to make with friends, and have at a big group. Everyone flocks to the fry bread. We put out honey butter...

Nah- don't care for it. Biscuits? Yes. Dutch oven biscuits? O heck yeah.. Fry bread? Nah..

But then again I was never a fan of hush-puppies, which is basically cornmeal deep fried fritters. Oyster fritters? Oh yeah...

I just like a little 'something' if I'm gonna drop it in a vat of spitting fat.

Is everybody getting rain? Since yesterday, we've been getting a little moisture. Last night it rained pretty hard, and then today it kind of drizzled all day. That is except for about 20 minutes that there was an absolute downpour. The exact same 20 minutes that the truck load of hay showed up and I had to unload it. No, the tractor doesn't have a cab, but we didn't use it. Hay come in on a flatbed (large squares). I unloaded by chaining it to a fence post and having the driver drive out from under it. So right now, I have a bunch of large squares, one next to each fence post. I got absolutely soaked.

I went all summer without doing that, and now that it's only 60 degrees it has to happen. Oh well, that was the last of it, we have plenty enough hay for the horses, for all winter. Last year we cut it pretty close and was on our last 3 or 4 small square bales when the first cutting was being put up. that was too close, so this year we plan on at least a Ton at that point so that we can hold off to the second cutting and get the good stuff. Course, last year we added a colt to the corral that wasn't planned on.

Nope. No rain. We had some popcorn showers a few weeks ago, but not this week. Dry as a bone.

Threats all day, but no rain yet. This is what, about the 10th day all summer without rain? But the night is young...
