I’d love if someone were to go and rebuild old unique buildings/houses in that area. There were so many hundreds of houses lost to the civic center and interstate

90 % of Fort Conde Village was lost to it.

It shouldn’t have been. It was funded for before but ALDOT punted thinking the bridge project was about to begin. They rolled it into the bridge project and when that got nixed it went “down with the ship.”

Haha you know what I mean...its more of the all three together thing. Anyways I entertained the nonsense for far too long so I apologize to everyone for engaging for so long.

In the future I will just ignore posts from those who are only negative. Have a good weekend everyone

So only 19 units of the Gayfer Redevelopment will be for the "extremely impoverished" that can get Federal Housing Voucher. The rest will still be "affordable housing". But the plan also says that it is still targeting middle-income earners

So what's everyone's opinion on the Gayfer Project?

Not familiar with the whole backstory, but since its Gayfers I would go the other way and make it more upscale, Develop a separate affordable housing nearby. One big deterrent in re purposing these buildings is cost and meeting code, typically fire escape codes, hvac, and electrical upgrades and in some cases cost makes it prohibitive. Similar former department store developments in downtown Huntsville (Belk Hudson Lofts) and Birmingham (Pizitz) have been very successful. BUT there is a definite need for affordable housing in downtown areas. Just don't know if Gayfers is the right choice, but applaud Mobile for looking at that option, with the right plan it will work I'm sure.

They’re saying it’ll be for people working downtown, but how can they even regulate that? I’d like to live downtown, but I don’t work there. Would I be refused?

I’m surprised it hasn’t already been transformed, would make a great hotel as well.

this is the last major building to be revitalized in downtown correct? Can't think of anymore buildings 3-4+ stories in need of revitalization
