My wife and I are thinking about taking a trip up to Milwaukee for a long weekend in late June. Since neither of us has ever been to Milwaukee we have some questions.

At the top of our to do list is Brewers baseball and Miller Park. Our plan is to stay at a downtown hotel. Doing so, can you get around without having a car?

What are some recommended attractions for first time visitors? Touring a brewery and checking out Summerfest both sound good to us. Any suggestions? Again, is all of this possible without a car?

Car makes the weekend much easier and you can do more. Easy city to drive around so no issues there.
Besides what you listed, other things to do:
1. Harley Museum
2. Riverwalk and Lakefront - north of summerfest grounds.
3. Drive north to Cedarburg, check out that area and Port Washington.
4.Head west to Holy Hill and take in the view from this bueatiful church high on a hill in Washington County to see the countryside. By June, it will be very green and coming from AZ, I think you may find that to be neat.
4. Art museum on lake front.

These are just a few that come to mind. You would have a great time.

I agree - having a car does make commuting from place to place much easier. Cabs are available and possibly a safer route (if drinking). If staying downtown, walking to Summerfest, Bradford Beach are doable without a car and recommended to beat the late summerfest crowd. Harley Museum is a must see as well. Enjoy your trip!

I would reccomend taking a boat cruise out on Lake Michigan on Milwaukee Boat Line. Dinner cruises or Booze crusies are available or daytime cruises are fun with live music.

If you like gambling then take in some action at Potawatomi Casino.

I would walk the river walk as well maybe a shop and dine and drink in Milwaukee's Third Ward. Their very nice restaurants on Milwaukee St between Wisconsin.Ave and Mason.St. I would walk Brady Street and also go for a walk out on the Pier at McKinley Marina for a very nice view at night. Bradford Beach is also a nice spot to take in some rays.

You could also take a horse drawn carriage ride through downtown as well.

You can do this without a car by taking local bus routes or cabs or the Milwaukee Trolley. Here are some links to help you.

Here are my choices for hotels:

InterContinental Hotels & Resorts | MILWAUKEE | Hotel Overview

County Clare Irish Inn - Milwaukee, Wisconsin

Good Luck!

you could also visit the Milwaukee Zoo (as we're supposed to have the best one in the country); I-Max theater; Milwaukee Domes (I don't know where the Domes are but I remember going there as a kid)

The Domes have been completely remodeled, I also highly recommend the Domes as well. I'm sure many of you have noticed the new LED lights at the top of each of the domes.

Are you serious?! I haven't been to the Domes in ages. We went there on a class field trip back in elementary school. I would love to go there sometime again to see the remodeling and how much has changed. Seems beautiful from your picture and description!

Don't forget the free Downtown Trolley Loop in downtown as a great way to get around the city. It isn't as convenient as the bus but it is free and takes you to all the sights downtown.

Yeah take or rent a car. Miller park is some distance from dowtown , not far , but not walking distance. I'm not sure why you'd choose milwaukee as a vacation spot though. We have a lot of festivals but not a lot of real tourist attractions at all.

Go to wisconsin dells if you wanna have some summer fun in wisconsin. There is so much cool stuff in the dells I can't list it all. But google wi dells and you'll be pleasently suprised.
