I moved back to Michigan from the East Coast. You couldn't pay me enough to move to Florida.

Default Michigan Exodus of 2009

We are going to North Carolina...just east of Raleigh. Both teachers without prospects ANYWHERE in Michigan.

Keep the responses coming. "You couldn't pay me enough to live in Florida" is so true. For Florida, it seems there is a gravitation for Michiganders to the St. Petersburg area. Michigan's spirit is unique, but for the present economic woes, an uncivilized element and lack of political will.

Saw the train wreck coming and went to North Texas (DFW metroplex) in June of 07. Sold the house in Michigan in 2 weeks before the bottom started falling out. I had a job lined up here before moving. We were very fortunate in this regard (had job, sold old house before moving).
We miss Michigan friends and family a lot. We like Texas. We like the mild winters. Summers don't bother us too much. Spring and fall are very nice. The 2 teenage kids love it here. We even found some other Michigan expats to play euchre with.

Good luck

Moved to Phoenix in 2004; sold my home in the nick of time.

Had to teach the locals out here to play euchre.

Still exploring AZ, and I'm starting to REALLY dig the Tucson area. Been driving around New Mexico too, WOW.

I miss family & friends, but they find ways to come out here in the wintertime.

My wife has never been to da U.P., gotta take her there soon. Summertime, of course.

I don't have any advice, but I had to laugh because we went to Florida this month for a friends wedding. His dad lives in Lakeland but wants to move closer to the St. Pete/Clearwater/Tampa area. Nothing comfirmed yet. Right now he lives in a trailer park (sorry but that's what it is) that's all over age 55. It was really nice. But one thing we all noticed was it almost seemed like we were in Michigan because there is soo many people in that area from Michigan.
Well, where ever you choose, good luck and happy days ahead!
