You know since January 1 of this year I have met more people from Michigan than I have in the last 7 years. Mostly from the U P. The cool thing here is we have an Army base and Airforce base. the people I have met from Michigan are not miltery people. They moved here just for a change. The cost of living is high but the economy hasn't been hit like the lower 48 yet. Ask me again after we go through this years tourist season that is just now hitting us. That will tell the tale on how the economy is doing.

I know someone who lost there job at the GM Tech Center and is going to Alaska to work on the pipeline. That is how bad it has gotten.

Is the person going to work on the oil pipeline or the new pipeline for natural gas that is in the works??? Pipeline jobs are good jobs. Hard on the family from what i hear. Two weeks on two weeks off. I'm sure that's not all workers but for the most part. You may as well be married to a trucker with that kind of schedule. The gold mine also has good jobs it's just getting your foot in the door.

I know through my uncle so I don't know the details. It sounds as if his family is going to stay here in Detroit while he works out there for awhile. I take it as a temporary job.
