Um, it won't be an AMG with 208hp. The A45 AMG versions are going to be 350hp versions of the regular engine. When released they will be the highest "specific output" engines in production. The cars also feature the newly revised 4MATIC system that was designed with heavy input from AMG for all models.
It will be a "first" in that it is the first time AMG did anything on a car smaller then the C-class. It will also be a "first" in that it will be the first time AMG worked on what is at it's base a FWD car. However, the vehicles themselves that are actual AMG's will not be FWD and will all be 4MATIC's.
Right on. Thanks for correcting my laziness. If 350hp/330lb-ft of tq and that incredibly high output for an engine that size stock is the case, I would certainly expect to see the same done to the CLA-class here in the US, especially since the article I linked to says it's in development.
And Dozer- we've split somewhere. I was saying (mistakenly so, because of the A45) that if the rumoured CLA AMG version were to come to fruition, it would be a first for AMG. You mentioned other AWD AMG verisons becoming options, but the difference is the models you mentioned are all longitudinal-mounted/RWD-based vehicles. I was thinking the CLA would be the first transverse/FWD-based AMG, but was wrong, because it appears the A45 AMG is set to hit the roads in Europe this fall.

Nope. Introducing the 1987 AMG Debonair, based on a Mitsubishi 3 liter, FWD sedan:
And yes, it was tuned by the real AMG, not some knock off.

Probably not a car that AMG want to remember.
Wow, that is one I have never heard of before.
