My GF has a 1999 Miata & I know there is at lease ONE Miata owner on here. I've never owned one but I have driven many of these little cars. We got one problem fixed but now on a less then perfect road the cat seems to hit one of these bumps & the RPM's drop almost to the point where it looks like it's going to stall. But it doesn't the revs climb back up & it keeps moving forward. Now I know these cars ride a bit low but I have never heard of this problem before. I have looked underneath the car & have found nothing hanging from what I can see. It ALMOST feels like something is bumping up again the flywheel.. maybe.
I've been a member there for a while so long in fact that I have forgot my log in & password.
Too lazy to get another one. And today I don't feel like messing with getting another one.
So instead you are wasting your time here, where there might be a Miata owner to help you. At Miata.net there are likely a dozen who own the same year as your friend.

If I was in your situation. I think I would just make another username and password. Do you like your girlfriend enough to do that? It is her car than you're trying to help her with.
If all she can afford is a 15 year old Miata, then you can find better
