> If all she can afford is a 15 year old Miata, then you can find better

If she owns a 15 year old Miata is shows good taste. Also shows she may not be high-maintenance.

This is probably not a Miata-specific problem. I suspect intermittent electric.

I had one for 15 years (same one). It was relatively trouble-free- not as trouble-free as a Toyota or Honda, but only minor repairs. Fun to drive. Good mileage. Inexpensive to insure.

> Buying the miata in the first place was a mistake

So the mistake was not buying a car that is troublesome, not fun to drive, poor mileage, and expensive to insure?

I don't know why there is so much trash talk about the Miata on this thread. I don't own one but I can say they are some of the most reliable cars out there.

The problem may stem from a lose electrical contact. When you hit a bump, the contact to one or more plugs gets disconnected for a moment and then reconnects back. That's why it doesn't stall. Check your plugs, distributor and wires.
Another possible cause may be the fuel injection.

What does the bolded part even mean?

The "cat" seems to hit a bump?

The catalytic converter or what?

If my car cut out when I hit a bump, the first and obvious thing to check would be that the battery terminals were clean and tight.
