So I looked at Tampa Bay... the average SFH in the city itself was 275k in Feb 2020. Today it's 432k. So that's not exactly cheap although for sure cheaper than here. Without knowing much about the Tampa area though, I wouldn't be able to tell you what areas are desirable and how much those cost.

You are aware that online jobs are now the norm right? The fact of the matter remains that jobs can get reduced to data and then you can do the data from anywhere. There are local government jobs in Massachusetts that are being performed by people that are literally hundreds of miles away.

Look at what happened in Amherst. Many of those that graduated UMass Amherst stated in the area because they have remote jobs. As an additional round of students came in it drove up rental prices to the point where some students are going as far south as Hartford to find dorms.

From what I've been hearing is that this whole back to the office mentality is generally working with those that are single and without kids that are usually younger and got tired of doing things remotely for education and in higher ed. However once somebody has children, a significant commute, a house, family obligations Etc it's simply makes more sense to do it online.

Housing is much cheaper outside the Boston Metro area. And if you think you're going to make less money that's not really the case because many employers pay on the basis of the actual market demand not location. About 15 years ago I was working for a major retailer and the pay scales leaked out. Payment was on the basis of competition not cost of living.

If you want to do something physical like being in the trades or manufacturing I can understand that but even then there's a fair amount of that in Western mass. You don't see that much for manufacturing in the Boston area

I personally don’t want to live in north Adams. If someone is remote and wants to save a lot of money maybe that would seem cool to them.

I’m going to guess it was a whole lot more than $100K worth of renovations, $100K doesn’t go far nowadays given the labor and materials costs.

Only 3.2% of the US works from home.

https://findstack.com/remote-work-st...re%20workforce.

I would love to. But that's not really possible in healthcare.

As per your link (#4), healthcare has the
highest number of remote workers (15%), followed by technology (10%), and financial services (9%).

BTW, during Covid I saw my doctor online (video consultation) and it was great.

And how do you suggest I do surgery remotely?
