Why is the state proceeding with Phase 4 when numbers are going up? I know they are hoping to out-vaccinate the virus - but that seems risky in view of a worsening trend.

It’s not even begging. It’s more like clearing the standby list at the airport gate to catch an earlier flight home. That’s how I got mine a couple of weeks early. Numbers aren't going up. Cases are only flattening but hospitalizations are continuing to go down.

And yes, it's too late for the US to go back now and we will hopefully vaccinate our way out of this. But it's not just NZ...there are other countries (Australia, Vietnam, Laos, Korea, Taiwan, even Japan) who have set stellar examples and they are not isolated islands.
