No offense, but I think the fact that you pointed out "high percentage of black families" was wrong and rude. I think you should be a bit nicer on forum and not define an area as "bad" due to it's race.

Maybe but facts are facts. Is it just coincidence that Annapolis and Meade are the worst scoring high schools in Anne Arundel county? Is it just coincidence that these 2 schools have more problems with violence and gangs than in the past when they weren't majority black. Is it just coincidence that PG county, the only AA majority county, fights Baltimore City every year for the worst schools in the state? Baltimore county is 80% middle to lower middle class and their schools outrank PG county schools by a pretty good margin. What about Waldorf and northern Charles County? Over the last 10 years Waldorf has gone from 26% AA to 43%. It's been well noted on this forum how the schools in Waldorf have dropped like a rock. It's also been well noted that crime is much worse in that city now too.

So tired of people being blind to the cold hard facts. Obviously I need to tell you that these facts do not mean ALL black people. Many many great hard working people are black but there is a faction of their community, be it large or small, that continue to struggle with schooling and staying out of trouble. Sorry.

I have colleuagues in Probation that work in AA County for the schools unit. Contrary to assumption, Meade has little problems with youth on Probation, most live in Severn area, rarely Odenton, Laurel (AA Side), and Hanover. Demographics show that those areas have a LARGER WHITE POPULATION than AA population. Also there arent many gangs at Meade. Most of the "problem" students are in the Severn area in "Pioneer Village" section taht also attend Meade.

Most youth that are on probation in the schools, attend Annapolis, South River, ARUNDEL, Glen Burnie, and North County... However, I think folks will say that gangs in Crofton will be the reason Arundel and South River have this population. And yes Crofton does have gangs, so does Glen Burnie, Annapolis, and even the "redneck areas" of Edgewater, Harwood, etc.

There are gangs in every area. There were some in Arnold. I remember a few kids were on house arrest in Arnold. I have a sister that lives Bethesda, and they have "gangs" there. And there are kids on probation at every school too. Crofton has a low crime rate, actually. I also agree that Meade isn't as bad as everyone says. It's really improved. It's also an IB school. I have a friend that lives in Hanover, and her daughter doesn't have a problem with the school.

I would like to live within 30 min from ford Meade, not pay a fortune for a two bedroom but also not be in a bad area. Is that possible?

You can probably achieve 2 out of the 3 in many areas without a lot of difficulty. Getting all 3 will be more challenging.

Have been hearing about C Street Flats in Laurel. The area is not the very best, but it's not the worst, and it seems to be improving, and the apartments look nice (in the pictures, at least--I have no idea what they are like in person).

I've heard the C St. flats are small, and therefore expensive on a per sqf basis, but as with the new apts behind the town center you can walk to rests, cinema etc. Annapolis and Columbia are both within 30 mins of FM, have more amenities than Laurel, but also likely cost more.

Not sure what you consider to be "a fortune" but look into Riverscape Apts in the Piney Orchard section of Odenton. That may meet all 3 of your criteria.

I’ve been in Odenton, Gambrills to be more exact, for 12 years. I like it and it’s been safe for me. I live right on Route 3 so it’s convenient and not as loud as one might think. Schools are decent. Crofton and Severna Park are both nice areas nearby as well.

I personally like Odenton Gambrills area as I’ve lived here for 12 years. No complaints. The Route 175 area of Odenton is more run-down and older even though that’s where all the businesses are. Piney Orchard and Waugh Chapel are good for residential and families. There are new homes near the MARC as well if you need the train. In terms of other areas, Severna Park is number 1 in schools. Davidsonville and Edgewater also have nice schools.
